To be honest, pitching and having articles published was great for helping me build my confidence around writing. But after about six months I realised I should be channeling all of my ideas and creative energy into creating a publication of my own - this one. I have put freelance writing for other publications on the back burner for now and it’s been a great choice if I’m honest. Substack is where it’s at ❤️
Love this Anna! I've spent a long time in and around the performance scene, coached folks and studied performance psych, and honestly, it always seems to point back to this very idea. The 180 has some allure but more often that not it seems to leave people in some kind of perpetual holding pattern waiting for the right plans, moments etc.
As a good friend said to me recently, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication...
Without a doubt, the big transformations are the outcome of the millions of tiny actions and decisions laddering up to the big change. Happy this resonated 🩷
Love this so much! I'm all about small changes. Big changes feel overwhelming and they're hard to stick to. I find making small changes builds momentum and leads to truly beautiful places. I've transformed my entire life and health by making tiny changes that build on themselves. My new mantra is "better to start small than not start at all."
This is so true! The big transformations feel so overwhelming, the tiny steps are way more achievable and ironically, they are what lead to the big transformations anyway.
Great insights. I value your perspective as another former startup exec figuring out this world of writing.
Question… has contributing to outside publications been a beneficial strategy? If so, any advice on how to go about it (or point to a resource that helped you)?
Love this! Exactly what I needed to read as we head into a new year. Tomorrow is my goal-setting day and I think I need to make a space for this wise essay on my vision board for 2024 💞
Let me know if you decided to choose a tiny habit for 2024! I can't tell you how transformational it has been for me. I still love setting goals, but they've become secondary in my process which is interesting. This year I'm continuing on the writing train and am committing to 30 minutes of writing online (mainly on LinkedIn and Substack) to connect with as many other likeminded writers, creators, builders and business owners as I can. We'll see how it goes for the second year in a row!

Ready, aim, fire. Love this one, Anna!
Thanks Becky 🥰

So happy to read this piece it’s so marvelous
Congratulations!!!
I, too, am a bit by bit person, not a big leap person. The 12 week year helped me considerably.
