Woohoo! Has it given you some fresh ideas about how you can rework or reframe your skills to be more in line with the domain or area you want to pivot to?
Anna, I know you mentioned on Insta recently that you were feeling disheartened by people unsubscribing on Substack – please never stop posting! Your content is SO important. It has already reshaped so much of my career and the way I'm transitioning to a portfolio-style career.
Thank you beautiful!! It's all part of writing online and creating content but yes, the unsubscribes suck. I need to improve on emotionally detaching but it's tricky when I pour so much emotion into my pieces. Anyway, feedback like this keeps me going. I appreciate you ❤️
This really resonated with me and I love love LOVE the idea of remixing your skills. I've never thought about it in those terms, but in hindsight that's exactly what's seen me through every career pivot I've made!
I thought I was alone in this. I imploded my life and spent 4 years trying to crawl back to life. Walking around with the memories of your past glorious life, while circling Starbucks WiFi and restroom daily. Typing business plan and pitch decks to woohoo an investor to give me the first break check to prove why I pivoted from being a chemist to building waste technology hardware for pets.
My morale is definitely high for making that decision and sticking to it. I'm getting investors interested. Ai speaks highly of Scooperleash technology hardware. The term wouldn't exist without my input for five years. I'm proud I took less money to pursue a worthy cause Anna. I'm a dude, yet Kate Spade and James Dyson are my icons.
Hey! I saw your post pop up on my homepage and wanted to show some support. If you get a chance, I’d really appreciate a little love on my latest newsletter too always happy to boost each other!
It was amazing reading this. I am right now in the process of remixing! And these points are the push I really required. All set and excited for an exciting Monday to continue with the remix process by keeping your points in mind. Thank you.
I REALLY like the remix vs reinvent framing! I work as a careers advisor and can 1000% say thats way closer to how most people actually move– even if it does look messier from the outside.
Now excuse me while I go remix my whole life again!
I love the concept of remixing as opposed to the hard pivot. I recently felt at odds with the reinvent yourself language. It seemed to be entangled with the idea of burning everything to the ground and inventing oneself all over again. That feels devaluing to experience, skills and curiosities pursued. Nature (of which we humans are a part) evolves, it iterates. Adaptation starts with small “experiments” and doubles down on what works in the environment. Suffice to say no shame in hard pivots if that’s what’s called for. Equally if not more importantly a meandering remixing path is not only brilliant, it’s natural.
I think remixing is my middle name 🤣 butttt I’m honestly in the middle of a pivot from content strategist to OBM/coach and I find it so hard to let go of content writing and strategy. And you just reminded me that I CAN keep remixing, tweaking, and skill-stacking. If I wanna do different things, I might as well put in the effort to do them well.
You absolutely can keep remixing and tweaking, and I also remind myself that it's a process. Just because you're wanting to move from one thing to another, doesn't mean there won't be a transition period of overlap!
Love this post! I now realize I’m remixing and networking to get from A to B. And this post helps me in preparations of two important meetings next week and a possible upcoming partnership 🤞🏻Thank you! I also love the bit about sharing your journey. Have been doubting about it but maybe I should do so because otherwise, how will people know?
Im definitely over blowing up my life to start over…again. Remixing is the way to go. I’m working on it.
Congrats on your keynote!
I'm alllll about the remix, and honestly, remixing leads to reinvention over time anyway. And thank you!! Only slightly nervous about it...🥲
It is. It does, it’s not easy but what else are we gonna do?
Here for you!
Wow I love this and this post made me feel very hopeful and gave me some ideas for my situation! Thank you so much.

Needed this reminder!
😘

This was an absolute banger 🔥

I think a lot of us already do this but to your point it’s not really conscious or grounded in intention. So happy this has helped!

Do you regret your decision, or are you now on the other side?

It sounds like you're getting some great traction, keep going!!
What if you were my co-founder and VP of marketing. We will be a great duo in the pet-tech market

Woohoo! Remixing is the way!
Nice. I’ve had a few pivots. And I’m so glad
I'm the same!!

Thanks for that feedback! Nice to know that the professionals agree with me 😉
Haha I’m an unprofessional professional lol
Love this concept so much!
Happy it landed with you!

Agree with ALL of this!
Thanks Anna. Congratulations on the keynote btw. 🎊

Random sales role is a universal experience
Haha so true
Fortunately, made it to this post about a week too late! lol
