woah. this reminds me of two things:

1. reading somewhere that “You are the creative expression of the universe at a single moment in time” - i’ll never forget that 🪐

2. an albert einstein quote: “there are two ways to live. one is as though nothing is a miracle. the other is as though everything is.” 🪄

i want to print this whole post and stick it on my walls!!! maybe i will.

I love that Albert Einstein quote ❤️

Thanks for this reminder Anna! I think overall I've a positive and can-do kind of person, but we all have our moments of blaaaah and being extra hard on ourselves. I'm interviewing for a new opportunity today and this is the pep up I needed.

Oo how did you go?!

I’ve been shortlisted so through to the next stage of interviewing - hopefully this week 🎉

I also start another new fractional CFO role today. So our little plan we discussed is taking shape.

This is the kind of list I want to come back to on hard days. The reminder that progress shows up in the smallest corners, always — and that a clear end point isn't a prerequisite to start moving :)

The framing here is energizing, but I wonder if emphasizing “you’re more capable than you think” risks subtly putting the burden for underachievement back on the individual rather than on genuinely constraining environments, incentives, or structural barriers.

If someone recognizes many of these 13 signs and still feels stuck, how do you suggest they distinguish between a mindset gap they can work through and a situation where the rational response is actually to change their context rather than their self-belief?

Good point, and that was not my intention with this piece. Of course environment and circumstances play a part in how people move through the world and what they can do.

This made me think of studying abroad despite never having left the country before, never traveling alone, and being incredibly shy. When I first applied, I told myself, "You can always change your mind." When I got accepted, bought new hiking boots, and began to pack, my mind still said, "You can change your mind." The day my dad drove me to the airport, the voice got more scared, more in disbelief, but somehow also.. less? I managed to get on that plane and fly seven hours away from home. Ironically, I found out the airline lost my luggage when I arrived 😅 (luckily they found it 24 hours later). In spirit of this piece, I'm going to challenge myself to do another scary thing. And I challenge everyone reading to do the same.

Thanks Anna! Think we all need a reminder that we have lots of evidence of being capable. So great to have your optimistic posts to pull me out of the negative news cycle!
